Rocky road to MOT time
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:43:43 PM »
So after many years (3 to be exact) my land rover is almost ready for its MOT (some wiring to fix, brakes to bleed and a throttle cable needed).

Anyone have any recommendations on key points land rovers fail on?

Pictures will follow once she's had a wash!

Thanks

Thomas

Lights and Rust...in my case anyway. Usually one of the the lights you checked were working in the layby just before the MOT station :-(
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Rust?

What's that :p

For the throttle cable I need to put a ball on the end of the cable...how is this normally done? Can I get the bits out of a local motor factor?

I don't now if you mean a nipple needs soldered on, or you mean one of the Amal type throttle ball joints?

I think it's a nipple that needs soldered on. Its just a metal ball on the cable that goes into a hole one the throttle linkage on the carb.

quick fix is electrical terminal block, cut the block out of the plastic, use it as a nipple on the end of the cable.

If you go to an old style cycle shop they might still stock solder on nipples that you can solder on yourself.

Scratch that... Battery was flat, le sigh.

Anyways... Just brakes to bleed now.

I also have some new seats to fit... this'll be fun, seeing as I've no idea what my seats are... (volvo/range rover/something) ...
