Do you add 2 stroke oil to your Diesel?
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:58:35 PM »
I've been following a couple of fascinating threads in other forums that advocate putting a small amount of 2 stroke oil into your diesel.

Benefits appear to be
Improved mpg at 5/10% improvement
Better start up, quiter, no smoke
Smoother engine
Helps keep infamous EGR'S clean
Lubricates all fuel injection components to give longer life
Helps remove carbon build up on exhaust

Does anyone here try it?

Having read through a lot of this it does seem to make sense

Never heard that one, but LPG in a diesel is common on the continent.

Heard of it before but not read much about it. Can't see any danger in an old diesel, worst that would happen is more smoke!

I would be happy to try it out if I had a diesel handy

Have not seen it done here but when I worked in antarctica I used 2 stroke in diesels as they were running on avtur, which is not as oily as diesel but most of the machinery had special wax filters which mixed into the fuel to keep pumps etc lubed had no trouble with the 2 stroke even n common rail kit, cant say I noticed any difference in the engines running charechteristics,it certainly wont do any harm to try it.

It seems from some of these things that the sulphur in diesel used to lubricate parts of the fuel system (maybe similar to leaded petrol) which has now been removed, think I will definately give it a go maybe start on the defender  ;D

used it for years in many different diseasals  without problems just make sure you buy mineral 2 stroke and not synth,  last year the head gasket went on my tdi and when the head came off the head engine was as clean as a mary whitehouse's toilet,,,,,,,, havent used it in my td5 yet as it has a misfire that i cant get to the bottom of,
