Series Ballast resistor

I have fitted the new type 'finger' glow plugs, the wiring diagram which came with them indicates I should connect them through the ballast resistor, anyone know if this is correct?

I have been informed that they are better not connected through the resistor as this will supply them with a full 12v and they will function more efficiently.

Any clues?

As far as I know you should not use the ballast resistor, as they need the 12 volts.
You could always put an inline fuse in if you are worried about the wiring.
