Ok I just came up to a junction and there was a little noise and then the landy died.

Have had a look and recon the timing belt has snapped.  Will get a better look tommorow when I get my tools.

How bad will it be. Will it be a head off job or just a quick belt off swap and away we go.(it is going to be the first one is int it.)

It is a 1997 300 tdi land rover 90. The bad thing is I just bought it on saturday.Had a belt done before I bought it so.

Any advice would be appreciated.

No dont remove the head. Just get the bent rods out(used a slide hammer before) replace. Set up the timing, new belt. off you go

Ok You make it sound so simple.

Have probable made it worse.

Thought that there was a problem with the fuel so cracked an injector and no fuel so bled the system and tryed again nope. Had a friend crack it over and looked in the oil cap.No movement in anything.

Bad Day. Tommorow will reveil whats wrong. Gutted.

I snapped mine a couple of months back, moved the landy around on the starter all I to so was change all the push rods, one cam and the belt had it running again within 4 hours

Ok Started stripping the landy today. Can't for the life of me get the bottom pully off tryed puting a bar and socket on it and turning the engine but not enough power in the battery.So a wee tantrum was had then tools way.Will get it towed to my work and get the air gun onto it.

Might be worth whipping the rocker cover off and checking the cam is still in one piece! Have known of them snapping

as said before , set of push rods/ belt and probably a broken rocker  we did sardass's motor in about 3 hours start to finish,
the last 3 i have done were all caused by the tappets being wide open and a pushrods jumped out

Yeah I googled it and heard that a rocker or cam could be damaged. But Am hopeing cause it was not a high speed snap that it is just belt and a few push rods.
will find out tomorrow.

Stripped my engine today.

I have 5 bend pushrods and a shredded timing belt.

Ordered a set of push rods and a crankshaft pully, as the large washer timing belt guide on the modified pully had been bent when the belt was changed LESS THAN 200 MILES ago.

And it totaly shredded the Timing belt.

Checked the rockers and they all seem in good order. Will find out when it runs again.

Final managed to get the landy running again. Touch of blue smoke but running..

Had problem with the crankshaft being 1 turn out so wouldn't fire.

Hope it lasts longer than a week.
