Mark, I'm sorry to say you'll be unlikely to find anything up here that looks like English "green-laning". There are almost no vehicle navigable off-tarmac rights of way. Our " Green Road" trips are pretty much all done with the owners permission to use estate roads and forestry tracks.  Your best bet, particularly if you are coming without a vehicle - would be to get yourself to one of the "off-road experience" sites where they'll hire you a vehicle and let you use their ground for the day. Please do NOT be tempted to hire a 4x4 at the airport and head off up some random track. Potentially you'll just annoy the locals and make it even harder for us to get access. If you've not been up here before I can also recommend just taking an ordinary car for a drive - some stunning scenery from even the major roads.

Unless there is some kind soul willing to be a chauffeur and show off our great scenery and mud at the same time  ?

Mark, without knowing where you are flying to or what your plans are ..... Scotland is a big place with a fair few off-road sites. I suggest you get busy on Google.

Hi,
i hope you have a great time when you get here.

Sadly there is nothing for 'Much Cheapness' in Scotland when its Tourist Activities,
but
where you are going,
takes you to where some of the very best views are to be had for FREE, (my fouvourite price)
&
these are available right from the public roads without needing to go up tracks.
(fuel is cheaper at least someplaces like in Aberdeen, Huntly, Keith, Elgin,Forres, etc, you are in the middle of Tesco/Asda land.)
www.petrolprices.com
'huntly'

http://www.bordc.net
is the Local Club,
possibly some type of event is on in the area when you are there.

*I will put some links up when i check what is still open in the way of 4x4 adventure places or ones providing
'Land Rover Safaris' etc..

There is an Adventure Centre with Off Road Driving near Banchory, & near Alford.(or there was)
A Motor Museum, & other bits and pieces.
(i will see what i can find later)

Huntly is in a great area for getting into the hills & fantastic views from the tarred roads.
Look towards Dufftown, Tomintoul, Ballindaloch,Glenlivet etc

'Tomintoul' to the 'Lecht' to 'Ballater' or 'Braemar' is well worth driving.
(its a fantastic trip & very different from any other road you will find in the UK.
turn off to 'Ballater', 'Balmoral' or 'Braemar' after heading down to 'Cockbridge'/'Corgarth',
'A939' to Braemar is fantastic, turn off before going onto the 'A 949' when coming down towards Aberdeen.
'A939' but take the turn onto the 'B976' ;) 8)

its not a huge distance, but leave plenty of time to enjoy this amazing route)
*Cock Bridge-Tomintoul is the road you here closed first most winters)

The Lecht Ski Centre is open all year & has Quads or Karts in the car park, & Devil Karts on the Hill.

'Glenlivet Estate' websites are worth checking to see if there is a 'Land Rover' Safari or similar available still.

later

If you are going off to Inverness anytime.

Lots of Adventure stuff on offer at Aviemore, Grantown on Spey, Carrbridge etc.
Look for the 'A939' 'Carrbridge to Nairn' for a wonderful drive if going to the coast.

Don't forget that the mentioned towns and many others near by all have distilleries  ;)  Of which some will do visitor tours, ideal for a rainy day, but do make sure you have a driver.

Look towards Dufftown, Tomintoul, Ballindaloch,Glenlivet etc
