Squeak under acceleration
« on: May 27, 2016, 09:31:58 PM »
I'm getting a squeak under acceleration and can't work out what it is. It started just before last weekend and didn't improve after the fun in Bathgate.

I tried to record it, link to video here Landy Squeak by 76Andy, on Flickr

It only does it under acceleration, as soon as I let off or coast it stops.

I'm also getting a fairly serious vibration from about 40mph upwards. This started after the weekend at Bathgate, it may be associated or may just be a wheel out of balance.

Prop UJ's feel ok, possibly a little play in front prop UJ. Being new to this i'm not sure how much play is too much.

Any thoughts welcomed

cheers
Andy

could it be a wheel bearing? have you jacked it up and had a pull at the wheels, my 110 did similar and it was one outer rear bearing

I'm pretty sure its not a wheel bearing as its not speed related. it does it at similar revs in each gear during acceleration. What I can't tell is whether its from the drive train or possibly a pulley.

I think I will start with replacing the UJ and take it from there.

cheers

Yea propshaft a good start thought my engine was falling out till I realised it was worn uj and missing prop balancing weights. Now she purrs' like an elephant.

Ok after a quick drive tonight all appears ok. Did the front prop at the weekend and had a slight improvement with the squeak but still had the bad vibration. Rear done tonight and as above, she is now purring like an elephant😀😀😀

In fact it' seems to have cured about another ten rattles and squeeks.

Cheers
