Series engine mounts
« on: January 03, 2014, 09:02:05 PM »
Im about to fit a 200tdi to a series and have noticed that there are 2 engine mounts offered. The petrol ones are round and the deisel mounts are square. I have 4 of the petrol ones and need to find out if i can use them on the tdi.
Whats the difference ie stronger, less noise transfer, lifts the engine slightly more etc etc.
Anyone used both or have a preference.
Thanks.

check out the following which describes the engine mounts, along with everything else required for a 200 di conversion, which I am about to embark upon.  go to the "click here to find out.." at the foot of the page.
hope it helps.

Thaks for that. Ive seen this site before. Im keeping the powered steering pump as ive fitted a disco 1 steering box and will be using a defender front end  and bonnet to keep the install simple.
I noticed that they use of the petrol mounts.
There is a guy on ebay that sells home made exhausts and turbo install kits for 200tdi into series trucks and his feedback is realy good.
When are you starting your conversion?

Before you start, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of:
The standard engine mounts will leave the engine about an inch too low - you need to make up some shims to raise the engine.... half an inch will do!

You can leave the turbo attached, you just route the turbo direct into the inlet manifold. If you can get the Defender turbo & Manifolds, then the whole problem goes away

Remember you also need the 200tdi radiator, for the oil-cooler.

Finally - go the the next CCV, and speak to the man who runs the Green Series 1 ("Boghopper") - he has a full 200tdi setup in a leaf-sprung 88, with nothing cut on the chassis!

Diesel Series is more vibratory than petrol, so more chance of shear.
Diesel is square - more  cross-sectional area  ?
Diesel rubber seems firmer  ?

Diesel design has catcher hooks   ;)  position to limit slew  port / starboard    ???   in event of shear both sides

Hi
I have just fitted 200tdi  in my 80 inch at Xmas and used the square mounts at the engine and round on the gearbox.

The mounts on the chassis were also changed, also using a 200tdi radiator with a Sierra Cosworth intercooler and a custom exhaust.

The manifold and turbo are 300tdi

Had to look in parts book ,  offhand I would have said round at stern ,  however it is  4qty. square for a diesel .  I need to remember that for one of those soon projects      :D
