"Green lane" cover on most 4x4 policies is a bit of a con as green lane's South of the border are generally still classed as part of the queens highway, ergo a standard car policy provides the same cover in respect of 3rd party risks, and as there are no green lanes in Scotland it's even more pointless.
The 4x4 element of the policy usually refers to non competition days I.e no tyro, RTV etc even a treasure hunt where there is a prize / trophy or inducement is classed as competitive, even if the prize is a Mars bar
, the 4x4 cover basically for events sanctioned by an organised club or association (I.e MSA ) for events such as a pay and play, picnic's etc, however I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting anything from a claim, as there will be a million and one hoops to jump through.
What your really needing is specialist Motorsport cover which is costly, but can be bought to cover specific events as opposed to an annual policy
