Off Road Day Insurance
« on: February 17, 2015, 04:52:38 PM »
Folks,

Just wondering whether anyone can help with separate off road/greenlaning insurance?

After selling my old Defender 90 we have purchased a new one and have decided to partake in the Land Rover Experience Trek in May (I know its soft roading but probably better with a brand new vehicle  ;) )

However due to having a mirrored insurance policy on the new Defender it appears I do not have green lane insurance and was wondering if anyone knows of such companies that provide cover for a single day (rather than include as part of your policy).

Any suggestions for insurance companies would be welcome :)

Cheers
George

Hi George. I have this cover through Adrian Flux currently and prior to that, was covered through Lancaster Insurance.

Thanks Alan, yep insured through Adrian Flux on the old Land Rover but once we added in my other car/new Defender it ended up too expensive.

Was wondering if anyone knows a company that does purely green lane insurance (similar to track day cover that you can get separately). Therefore I keep the same insurance company for road but a separate policy for the Land Rover experience

REIS Insurance is used for Road Cover during the Mudmaster every year, this is taken out on a two day cover so might be worth a call to see if this can be extended to off-roading on a private basis.

I don't think Adrian Flux covers me if i'm in the fields fetching fire wood only when taking part in an MSA approved club event. Worth asking the question if your covered when off roading but not part of a MSA event.

"Green lane" cover on most 4x4 policies is a bit of a con as green lane's South of the border are generally still classed as part of the queens highway, ergo a standard car policy provides the same cover in respect of 3rd party risks, and as there are no green lanes in Scotland it's even more pointless.
The 4x4 element of the policy usually refers to non competition days I.e no tyro, RTV etc even a treasure hunt where there is a prize / trophy or inducement is classed as competitive, even if the prize is a Mars bar :), the 4x4 cover basically for events sanctioned by an organised club or association (I.e MSA ) for events such as a pay and play, picnic's etc, however I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting anything from a claim, as there will be a million and one hoops to jump through.
What your really needing is specialist Motorsport cover which is costly, but can be bought to cover specific events as opposed to an annual policy
