« on: September 13, 2013, 01:30:59 PM »
hi all has anyone came up against this ? new clutch fitted 100 miles ago light use then no warning or noise ect thrust bearing fails took back out and looks like its been being held on and melted the plastic housing thought its adjusted wrong ! so new one in all adjusted up free play in master rod ect however when the motor heats up after a few miles all the play has gone and the clutch feels like its being held on and slipping a little once it cools down all is back to normal i've double and treble checked the adjustment so am confident its something else have also tried running up to temp with master cap off incase wasn't breathing and building up pressure but no ! not sure where to go next exept to swap master and slave any ideas please ?

Unsure which engine/box you running but is there any way you can take off the slave once it is heated up and see if there is free play with slave removed? could possibly identify roughly where the problem could lie. just a thought never come across this before. Have had a slave cylinder go wrong on a 200tdi after it was disturbed after changing clutch.

factory fitted 200 tdi on lt77 thats two clutches same problem so would be unlucky if they were wrong althogh with my luck you never know lol when slaves removed you can push it halfway back but crack the bleed nipple and can push it all the way home ?

Change the clutch flexi rubber pipe. These can delaminate inside and its not uncommon to have a wee flap of rubber inside the flexi stopping the fluid from returning. This can hold the pressure on the cylinder letting the clutch slip. Fluid can get to the cylinder so the pedal feels good but cant return. Worth popping it off and having a look.

I know its hard to tell but does there feel like movement in the clutch fork even when hot after removing slave cylinder?

If there is would say that problem is on hydraulic side, as Dave said check the pipe never thought of that as it sits just above the exhaust and gets warmer would become more pliable.

One way to check the hydraulics is when the problem occurs nip underneath and slacken the slave cyl bleed nipple...........
If there is a spurt of fluid and then all seems well for a bit then it is hydraulic and very probably the flexi pipe.

good luck

If the flexi is delaminating inside then fluid will run from the bleed nipple as per normal. It is the fluid returning back up the pipe that is the issue. So it may seem to bleed ok but keeps pressure on the slave cylinder.
