Bought a c9500exw winch and in process of getting parts got cable, isolator and wondering wether I need a fuse before the isolator . Winch motor is rated to 3.2kw which is about 270A should I get a 300A fuse ( motor rated ) or just leave it ? I was always taught to protect circuits from fault currents ( short circuit and overload). Any ideas where I would get one if its required .

I bought a complete wiring kit from Goodwinch with my winch, a fuse was never mentioned, so I assumed they knew what was required??????

I just use the one, I had always meant to put a split charge in but as I have never had any problems I always spend the money on something else  :o :o

Did you buy a rope or is it wire you have, if its a wire, save up for a rope, it is soooooo much easier to handle in every way, not too bad off ebay.

Got the winch secondhand from Lawrie McEwan, he wisely got plasma rope fitted around 28 m worth on the drum. Do I still need gloves to handle the rope ?

to be as near totally safe as possible then yes as it may pick up things from the ground, however I must admit to not always (hardly ever).  ::)

Plasma is very good & user friendly but is susceptible to damage if pulled over a rough edge ie the side of a forest track etc which is why I always use wire rope. It is not so handy to use but is much more durable & will withstand more punishment in hard use. I ALWAYSE USE GLOVES, my skin is quite delicate & takes time to replace. A major advantage of plasma is that should the rope break it will fall to the ground. Wire rope may whip back inflicting painfull injuries.
