series fuel gauge
« on: June 17, 2013, 09:11:35 PM »
I got the most eco car. When driving the series, the more miles I do the fuller the fuel tank becomes. When I take it to the petrol pump it drains the tank and reads empty again. Surly I should money from esso for this?
Or maybe my gauge reads back to front. Any idea what needs done to rectify these readings? I tried swapping terminals on the back but I just get the needle bending around the empty.

Sounds like the sender unit is operating in reverse to what you want. It might be worth pulling it out of the tank to make sure its float hasn't been bent around and its now working backwards.

Had similar only temp gauge happening was all down to earthing fault as though it was the wiring also was getting worried as soon as I turned it on it was of the scale and was getting cooler as it heated up lol so my advice check wiring to gauge especially if you have fitted or been doing anything near the wiring may have be one lose or shorting to give false readings

I recently swapped my complete dial as mine has temp fuel & volts, which is what  shug had been after. The fuel display did the same in his car. As my previous fuel gauge was ok, I'm going to disregard the wiring (which is all new) and the sender (which has been out for claibration).
I'm putting it down to fact my car is Neg. earth and this unit came from Pos. earth.  It would be nice to fix, but I can live with this quirk.

I have a solution.
Simply mount the entire instrument panel upside down.  ;D
(damn, I good at this technical stuff!)

Tippex out the "F" and take a pen and mark it "E", do the opposite with the "E".....
Sorted.

Thinking of reporting to the insurance company as a theft deterrant, who'd steel a car that's empty. And if it reads full they won't get far  ;D

Surely the "E" stands for "enuff", and the "F" is for "f all"  :P

Sorry, I'll get me coat!....

I have a 'Gauge and ammeter panel complete' (fuel & volts) part no 519827 for a vehicle up to suffix 'C' positive earth and also 'Gauge panel complete' (fuel & temp) part no 560744 for later negative earth, both would need to be tested to ensure they work, but could solve both your and Shugs issue?

Cheers
