When I put a Montego Diesel engine into my series, it had the same pump, and I did a little bit of tweaking. My memory isn't very good, but I recollect that under the diaphragm you've removed, there is a circular ring that if rotated has an effect on the speed of the fuel delivered. I recollect that it was on a very fine thread and it only took the slightest movement to fling everything out.
One of the symptoms was was it seemed to overfuel, and while it accellerated brilliantly, the engine got very hot and ran fast. As it's not hard to remove the diaphragm lid it's worth turning the circular ring one click at a time and see if that makes any difference. Remember and mark where you originally started.
I'm sure there was information about how to do this on the internet (possibly the same source as the drawings posted earlier) I recollect thtat the oinformation I got was from an American Truckers website as this type of pump is quite common.
