Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw ?

Hi. Yes. That made no difference but I was thinking of the power screw in the pic. Would that lower the rpm? Either that I need a new injection pump. How hard are they to fit?

Tried the idle screw again. Also the power screw. Boost hose. Took all the intercooler hoses ect back off. Nothing is making a difference. That's me at the end of my talent now. Anyone know a mechanic near Dundee.

No mate. I bought of a very good mate so had no reason to suspect a duff motor. Im almost ready to break it for bits now. It sounds great if only I can get the revs.down.

Did you put a new timing belt on the engine?

If the pump timing is out, it would still run but would be smoky or lumpy, this may also make it run fast it the timing is to advanced.

I didn't, no.  the guy my mate bought the engine from did. It sat in his garage for a couple of years and then I bought it.

I would check the pump timing if nothing else just to eliminate this from your list. The engine timing may be spot on but if the pump isn't firing at the correct moment this can cause the engine to run lumpy smoky etc.

You should always put a new belt on an engine that you don't have first hand knowledge off, every one will tell you that it's fine it had a new belt a couple of thousand miles ago just before I took the egine out!!!!

Hi. Thanks for your help but I wouldn't know how to check it. Never really worked on diesels before. I don't have a crank puller to check the belt either. Im at a loss with it.

so this engine has been through a few hands before you were sold it     if it has been sat for a while things do seize up    just thinking on other problems that can cause fast running does this type of pump have a governor diaphragm  if it has this could be split (on bmc 2.2 diesels this caused over reving)    going by previous posts you will have had the diaphragm of already to fiddle about with screws what may look alright could be u/s since this is not your forte

It's only been through one owner, my mate. I haven't had the diaphragm off yet so I'll give that a look over. Im lost on diesels lol. Cheers for the advice. I really don't think it can be much. It is a bit Smokey if I let it run for a few secs but as it revs so high I don't let it run for long. :(
