Landrover Series 3 spares
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:35:20 PM »
Hi Folks,
I've now got a Defender series 3 109, where's the best place to go for spares etc ?, I'm in Lanarkshire.
Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, it's a leaf sprung Series 3 Station Wagon. Looking for springs (4 off). Anyone got or used parabolic springs ?, as opposed to the 11 leaf type. Also got an oil leak from the pinion seal in the rear axle diff. Going for it's MOT next Saturday, hope it passes.

If you are in no hurry the Internet is your friend. Google names like John Craddock, Dunsfold and PA Blanchard for mail-order stuff, there are loads more - a copy of Landrover Owner will give you a squillion options. Look for a copy of the parts catalogue on Ebay, CD or download, to help find the right part-numbers.  Note that some suppliers of "pattern" parts do not have a good reputation for quality - you tend to get what you pay for...

I'm not near enough to your part of the world to be able to help with local garages.

Cheers,

G.

http://www.landroverv8.com/manuals.html

Some useful parts manuals there.

I would avoid craddock due to bad experiences with their delivery service but other people might have had better ones.

I've found LRseries.com are pretty good for less common parts, as are PA Blanchard.

Or just ask about on here, most people seem to have some bits lying about the place.
Got a spare bulkhead if you need one...

a series 3 109 is not a defender it is leaf sprung as opposed to coil sprung as defenders are  ;D
it would be good to check underneath before you attempt to order parts  :o
if it has coils it is indeed a defender and would be a 110 and not a 109

... i'll get me anorak and wander off now .......... :-X

If you want to be really picky and it's an early coiler then it wouldn't even be a Defender, it would just be a Land Rover 110...

I'll second the comment to ask on here or on other Series forums.

I started out with deciding last year to rebuild my crocked 2a which has been rotting away for decades since I last used it. I seem to have collected very quickly an awful lot of excess spares in the process, and I mean AN AWFUL LOT. At some point, I should dispose of at least half of what I've collected and I'd still have plenty in reserve. I know now that this seems to be the trend in the world of Series Land Rovers.

The sub header on this for sale/wanted forum says it all, and probably contains a warning!

probably out of order to promote other fora - but here are two maybe more series related

http://lrs3c.com/forum/ - landrover series 3 forum - friendly but quiet  :)

http://ollr.createaforum.com/index.php -  old leaf sprung landrovers - can be very bitchy and sarky but lots of usefull info to be had - if you can cope with the politics  ::)

i go on both and find them good for different reasons
