I drive past this 80in a couple of times a year. Sadly the owner is convinced the plate is worth £3.5k on its own... I doubt it'll ever move again.

If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Hi Genem should offer to buy it from him and once it is back on the road give the reg No back to him on retention and it will be issued with an age related plate anyway...Which is non transferable.

It's sad that the owner seems to value the plate more than the vehicle.

I've enough projects on hand anyway, including an S1 that's scattered across 3 sheds...

Not so sure about the Registration Value that he thinks he can get.
Or how thats going to get transferred as the vehicle sits now.
Rebuilt & then Tax and MOT exempt it would be interesting to know its value with that registration.

Its on the DVLA as Manufactured 1950,
and then First Registered. (or that can be Re-registered 1982)
Then Tax ran out 1984.

george i bet that means someone had the plate of it in 1984 and its on an age related plate already, and non transferable.
on a side note a friend had one with a similar plate and when he transeferred the plate the dvla gave him the age related one to put back on , one digit up from what he had, now has two consecutive plates, one non transferable

Is that "HSC"?
If so.... its just a Historic Plate: given to vehicles which are "first registered" significantly after it was built - there are a number in the club

Valuable? No, not really....

The other one is... is it actually transferable?
I had an 80 with a historic plate... and it was stamped "non-transferable"..... renders the plate essentially valueless,

The problem is that the owner is utterly convinced....and mad as a box of frogs. If some-one turned up with chapter and verse, all printed out, and countersigned by 3 policemen and a Minister, they'd probably still think it was all a con.

Shame.

I've been told on another forum that HSC is probably genuine - Edinburgh Reg from late 49,early 50 so that fits. The "First Registered" in 82 will be due to the vehicle only being entered onto the computerised records then. Nothing odd, all Pukka. Still not worth £3.5 k for the plate tho !

I can assert that SY9255 was issued by Edinburgh Council in late 1949.... though your other forum is also correct: 3-letter combinations were used between 1932 & 1963 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom,_Crown_dependencies_and_overseas_territories#1932_to_1963)
