Insa Turbo alternative?
« on: May 15, 2013, 07:09:32 AM »
Has anyone used Marix Lion Remould Tyres before, look very similar to insa turbos and are very competitivley priced, or perhaps a little cheaper and certainly more readily available.

What are they like?

i have kingpins on the 110 they are ok for the price, possibly a bit soft, they are starting to show cracks now, they are about two years old and half worn, having said that my 110 is very heavy running around three ton most of the time :o

i reckon the insas have been the best remould i have used, i have had three sets of them , two sets colways and two sets kingpin.
the colways are the only remoulds i had fail on me , i had two different tread types delaminate one of them brand new during fitting.

If you go onto paddocks they have insa turbos there, for four 265/75/16 tyres it comes out at £320
Each tyre is only £80

I run both insa and lions and find offroad just as good but the lions are softer compound and will not last too long just on Tarmac,I have old insa's and new ones too and even the new ones are also a lot softer compound,a lot of guys have been running saharas and only getting 3-4000 miles out of them and they are not as aggressive as lions/insa's

I've dumped my Khumo (?) remoulds as they were breaking up badly and well before the tread went. Craddocks have some Pirelli Scorpion muds that look good value ?

Note that very very soon most of the aggressive patterns will only be available as remoulds, the noise regulations mean that the manufacturers are moving to far less chunky tyre patterns. I suspect they will be carp off-road.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Likwise I am running kingpins on the 110 and they are starting to show cracks, the BFG's are lasting alot longer.

Why not ask if anybody has a spare set of Insa Turbo Special Tracks or similar?
I looked at the Marix Lions, but an advert for nearly new Insa's on rims did the trick for me. What size are you after, 265 75 r16?

235/85/16 are the size I have at present, I don't think there is much difference in diameter of the two is there?

265/75 have a lower profile but bigger foot print , look chunkier but reduce your turning circle.

Am pretty sure 235-85-16 are 33" rolling diameter and 265-75-16 are 33" rolling radius both same but of course 265 are wider

Just found a diameter calculator on line, the 235 are 31.73 and 275 are 31.65, so pretty much the same.

Getting back to the original questioon, I e mailed via the contact us button on their website about the Marix Lions, not a peep back after a week, don't think I'll be going there.

Who are Insa Turbo stockists in Scotland, or is mail order the only option?

I've just got a set of Insa Turbo Dakar's form Performance Tyres in Anniesland, Glasgow (although I know they have other branches too).   No problem getting them, I ordered them by e-mail on one day and they were available if fitting later the next day - no Issues at all.

(I had asked about Sahara's initially and there appeared to be no concerns about getting those either)

Having said that, I don't think even the Saraha's would have stopped me getting stuck on Saturday morning  ::) - Thanks for coming to my rescue.
