what size should the front 1 be

i am using the 200 tdi engine with the small belhousing gearbox

which sits close to the tunnel

i am using a td5 front shaft which is roughly 676/7mm long

TD5 front shaft should be shorter than what you need as its for an R380 box which sits further forward of an LT77 by about 60mm, it may be a rear 90 shaft you have tried. The distance between flanges of my standard LT77  motor is around 675mm

Mike,

If the LT77 is mounted in the normal position (i.e do the gear levers come through the transmission tunnel OK) then use a std 4cyl 90 front shaft (petrol or diesel)

hi bob
just got 1 from ebag
told was ok but ujs were away
so just fitted ujs and fitted shaft no good
when i slide the towards the gearbox
it has some wobble in it ???????

QUESTION
i could not get the slide bit back in the shaft
without hammering in
so cleaned all the slines both external and internal
still no good

but when i was cleaning the splines with a hacksaw blade noticed
brown stuff comming off thought it was old grease hardened????
so took the torch to it to melt it away but seems to be like
plastic covered ???
would this be the case
