4.6 flywheel on a 3.9
« on: January 25, 2013, 04:51:44 PM »
I'm doing a rebuild of a 3.9 V8 and was quoted for getting the whole engine balanced with flywheel and clutch cover on it. Unfortunately the 3.9 was an auto and I kinda need the one on my 3.5 as it's in use.

Flywheels for a v8 from a land rover seem to be very hard to come buy unless it's new and £300+

I've found a flywheel for a 4.6 from a P38 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261158781843?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

Is there anything stopping me from using that?

Thanks.

Interested as to what car that flywheel was fitted to as there was no factory fit 4.6 manual land rover. I would get a stanard 3.5 or 3.9 item and lighten it (4lbs taken off mine).

Have you changed the thrust washers on the crank for manual conversion?

Yea, I was under that impression. possibly actually from a 4L.

Not yet, I'll add it to my list. Still in the process of stripping it as work isn't leaving me with much time and it's bloody freezing in the garage. To be honest I didn't realise I had to. Anything else I need to change?

That was my preference but it's trying to find one for a reasonable price as I'd begrudge buying a new one at that sort of price when I have one on the 3.5.
