Freelander pricing
« on: December 11, 2012, 04:04:06 PM »
My wife is sort of interested in a freelander but is not sure.

I have been offered one for £650 with a year's MOT and 5 moths tax, is this a fair price?

It is an early one and belongs to a friends parents who have had to give up driving. Its a bit tatty and has a 'noise' at the back, it is a petrol maybe a 1.8?

Was considering it as a trial vehical prior to making a costly and uwise purchase.

Any info welcome

What kind of noise at the rear is it making? Diff mounts are a common point of wear - not too drastic to change.

If it is a 1.8 then the upgraded head gasket would be a welcome fitment.

Has it had the vicous unit and IRD replaced in its life? Check both are working correctly, loose surface and turn slowly on full lock. Scrubbing and scarting indicates a seized viscous. If its OK then worth remembering they last longer when given the chance to lock and unlock a few times, a spin rounf a wet grassy field would be ideal every so often.

Many thaks for the top tip's, I have always shyed away from them so my knowledge is limited to being able to recognise one in a car park.

Will hopefully get the chance to test it over the yule period.
