runs on lpg but not petrol!
« on: December 02, 2012, 02:45:49 PM »
2.25 swb 1973 petrol / lpg 2286cc engine with zenith carb.

Problem: starts/runs on lpg ok but can't get off full-choke on petrol or stalls. Once engine warm will run on petrol but stalls when I take foot off gas.

Tried/tested: carb dismantled and cleaned, petrol tank cleaned out, timing checked with strobe, points and plugs checked - but no joy. Was certain it would be carb but found it nice and clean. LPG conversion is most basic i.e pipe from mixer runs straight to air cleaner pipe.

I still think it must be carb but am at loss what I can do next.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to tune the carb? Google the type/engine and I'm sure some setup tips will be there.

I would look for an air leak in the induction side, leaking gasket, breather pipe, servo pipe etc, all free to check and easy to fix. can you get it to idle with the pedal or does it just die.

She just dies without full choke or heavy pedal, won't idle and can't tune. Did oil test for air leaks on manifold and checked servo pipe, all seemed ok but only way to tell I suppose is with a proper vacuum test.

Thanks

Thanks ffourphantomfixer

My son (John) has had a good go with her and he usually finds the trouble. Put her into local landy garage yest to see what the experts can do. Don't like giving up but haven't got anymore time to spend on it I'm afraid.
