CV & Half Shaft Help?
« on: October 16, 2012, 10:09:50 PM »
Looking for a bit of help chaps.

I've bought a new CV Joint & Half Shaft, the CV kit came from Paddocks but there's a bit missing and they say they don't supply it.  :(

The part is for a Defender 90 300Tdi

The part I need is the washer or ring that slides over the half shaft (not the circlip, I have that) I'm not sure what the part is called so help with part name and where to source it would be a great help?

You can see it on this picture

Cheers

Stephen,

this part is called the CV spacer and is part number FTC254. Paddocks have them at £2.27 - I ordered a spare one myself when my cv popped at Torphichen a few months ago.

Cheers Malc,

I managed to get one, well it's being delivered tomorrow. When I spoke to Paddocks they didn't know what I was talking about and everything I need should be in the kit.

Out of interest, I haven't seen the spacer in the flesh yet. Does it just cover part of the splines to stop the shaft going to far into the CV?

Cheers

Thanks Malc,

Got the spacer delivered today, do you know if there are different sizes. I put it on the shaft and it goes well over the splines and right onto the shaft? Doesn't seem right :-\

When I push the CV joint on it does stop as the shaft is sort of shaped to stop it going right in, I'm confused!

Cheers

This is all too confusing but hopefully this info is useful to some people. The info below is taken from another forum so please don't shoot me if its wrong.  :-\. The picture is a screen shot from Rimmer Bros who i found to have all the spacers.

Part Numbers for Spacer -

AEU2522 - 23/24 wide pre' 200TDI
RTC6862 - 32/24 wide 200TDI
TDJ000010 - 32/24 narrow 300TDI til current.

Hmmmm. Paddocks again.

Last CV kit I bought was Bearmach and I'm pretty sure it had the spacer in as part of the kit and that it only slides down as far as the end of the splines. It was last year so my aged memory may be playing tricks.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Don't get me wrong Gene,

I have always found the service from Paddocks to be great and you can get almost any part your looking for.

As for the CV kit, these situations could be averted if the kits included everything required. Most of us who own land rovers are novice to say the least and these kits could easily be fitted without the spacers if you didn't do your homework. Before you know it you'd need a new CV if the spacer wasn't fitted. It took a while to find this info and track down the correct part.

I must say over the past couple of days I've received great service from Rimmer Bros getting this sorted out. I've always found everything I need on eBay but these spacers are no where to be seen.
