i would think the turbo will be the same getting it off the manifold etc might be the issue, have a look on paddocks etc see if the part numbers are the same for a bare turbo

turbos are different,

you can "build" a disco one into a defender turbo but its not the most straight forward job as you have to dismantle & rebuild  the turbo,

ok took front and back off both turbos now have a working defender turbo.
