headlight brightness
« on: September 07, 2012, 02:47:43 PM »
i have a 20yr old def90, and as the title says, the brightness of the headlights are the problem.
the lights that are in my landi the now seem to be like one big unit, with a coil of wire for the light and no seperate bulb.

is there a kit you can buy to up grade to halogeon bulbs or sumthin? :/ if so where and how? :)

cheers
jack

Hi Jack,

You have sealed beam headlamps, good for waterproofness but not the birghtnest for seeing with!

One of the most tried and tested conversions is Wipac's crystal bowls along with a decent bulb, I find Halfords extreme brilliance bulbs are very good value for money and give a much whiter light which is best for seeing with.

The Wipac bowls are available from most of the online parts places, try Paddocks, MM4x4, LRseries etc

I've just fitted the Wipac Crystal conversion kit from Paddocks, was £30 delivered, put in a pair of Halfords super brilliance bulbs and what a difference, no longer look like a couple of candles in a jam jar!

I'll second the wipac crystals. Added benefit is the lamp reflector is made from plastic so will never rust and fail your MOT. Get the plastic bowl while your at it.

I just stuck a set of 6000K HID's in my Defender  8) I keep getting funny looks from BMW's lol  :P

The kit was £47 off ebay + 99p for some LED side light.

I have these Winpac clear plastic with capped bulb ideal for HID's.
