Series Hub Seals
« on: August 20, 2012, 10:05:12 PM »
I changed the hub oil seals on my lightweight fairly recently (within a year) but they started leaking again. It does sit for long periods of time. It had the leather seals in and it was these that leaked. They seem to have gone hard. I was going to try the rubber ones instead this time. Any opinions on which ones are best? Do you need to move the vehicle a little (one rotation) regularly to ensure the leather seals are wetted with oil? Will I need to do this with the rubber ones?

Also, when I bought the leather ones I made sure to get genuine ones, but they came in britpart packaging anyway. Looking at my spares, the leather ring isn't even concentric to the metal. Anyone recommend a source for proper genuine seals? :-\

You will get OEM from paddocks. They are Corteco brand and the rubber type.

Check your hubs are not scored and put a new breather (3 quid) on the axle.

Thanks Lexi - I hadn't thought about the breather - will definitely change that too.
