Hi folks,

The head gasket, on my 19J engine has gone, should I change the engine for 200/300tdi or just replace the head gasket?  :'(

The defender has only done 95000
Any thoughts

200 Tdi will go straight onto the gearbox etc without major issues, 300 Tdi needs more work, either will give 10-15 mph improvement and a few extra MPG. If you can find a good 200 Tdi then personally I'd go for it.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Personally if the engine otherwise runs well I'd do the headgasket. Its a cheaper repair than the silly money people want for old/high mileage tdi's and the 19j is a good little engine when set up correctly.

Finding a good 200 is getting harder but easier, if you dropping in a 300 then you need to weld in new mounts. But if you got the time much easier to find.  ;D
