well went to fit rear pads on the discovery and to find out what the funny noise was come in from and seen this



anyone had this before not just one side but both  ?

There is a technical word to describe the disc's condition, but I won't use it on this forum

I had something similar on a car with vented discs where one half broke off.

Hi also had this on a car,which was always pamperd.

am going to get a good look over it as the pads havent been sitting right either basicly going through the caliper and sitting on the bottom off the disc not sure if they have cut through / into the disc

seen this before, you will more than likely need a pair of new calipers aswell

One of mine was very similar a while back and the pad was resting on the disc and wore a groove, new calliper sorted the cause

seen it on vented discs when only the inside has come off

see this 3 times now all 300tdi disco's back axle, calipers rotten and the pads have fallen through and machined the disc.
doesnt happen on the front as the pads have pins through holes in them, but the backs are pushed in against springs so when the calliper corrodes the pads fall through

I put a set of 110 rear calipers on my 300tdi: they are also suspended pads
