In search of a Wabco ABS part.
« on: February 11, 2012, 06:44:22 PM »
Hiya.

Regarding the Rear ABS sensors on a 1993 Rangie LSE. ( I think it will also be the same on some Discos/Defenders too)
The sensors fit into copper sleeves which in turn are pushed into small steel tubes/sleeves which are fitted into the ends of the axle case.

I've refurbished the axle and in doing so I removed the steel sleeves as they were badly rusted, thinking I'll just buy a pair of new sleeves. Well, can I get these parts? Apparently they're not listed as separate bits on the parts list, and possibly only come with new sensors.

I called Wabco and had the pleasure to speak to possibly the most unhelpful man in Britain. I have one of the old sleeves and it says Wabco inside, so it's a Wabco part, but the man wouldn't give me any clue of where I could get this bit.
Local (sh*te) motor factors couldn't help either. I still need to try other factors though.

Apart from trying to get a rusty pair off a scrap motor, or sourcing a bit of tube the right size from a metal supplier, can anyone suggest anywhere that stocks Wabco bits or any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Mikey.

Hi Allen,

I've got a couple more places to try for new bits, but if the sleeves on yours are in good condition, and you can get them out I'll have them. I'll let you know.

Thanks.

Hi Stevie,

Thanks, but I already have a shiney new pair, it's the tubes they slide into that I need.

Cheers.

That is the number for the bush/tube the sensor slides into.

Hi Stevie,

It is indeed, but that lot then slide into another tube. And guess what, I've found the number, it's FTC1384!

I had a hunch and went to Stratstone in Perth. Had a look on there exploded diagrams, but no sleeve could be seen on the RRC pics.
However, I reckoned that new Defenders with ABS still use this bit. So, after looking at a new one outside we found the part on the Defender Rear Axle parts list. Just to confuse the issue, both the 1374 & 1384 are listed as sensor bushes, but the 1384 is an axle part and the 1374 is an ABS part.

Phew!

Only problem, they're listed at over £19 each!

That's why it's expensive, the Meta tube is indicative of a concept tube which is an abstraction from another concept tube, used to complete or add to the latter. (according to Wikipedia....)

However 2 inches of Metal tube should be a lot cheaper.......

ha ha love it, I was at work, leave me alone. Meta tubes are the way forward!

I can't believe my whole exhaust (a meta/metal tube) was £70 or £75 and yet your ABS housing thing is £20 each, ......£20 a pair might have been more acceptable.
