Heat Exchanger water heater.
« on: February 05, 2012, 10:39:29 PM »
I saw an interesting device at the Caravan show this weekend, basically a simple water heater made from a flat coil of pipe that you'd put over your campfire or whatever, gravity fed with water and almost "instant" hot water out the other end, while still being able to put your pan on the fire to cook. I think the main market was rural africa..... www.jompy.co.uk. ....but its got me thinking - has anyone seen or heard of a heat exchanger based water heater utilising vehicle engine/exhaust heat ?
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Google Calorifier.
s/s tank with a coil of which your engine coolant loop runs, can also come with an immersion heater element.
Webasto also do a water heater which runs off the diesel, a bit like a combi boiler.

Hi,

Have a look for "arrolman" posts. I'm sure he was selling one a while ago.
