TD5 starters have a common problem with the solenoid contacts arcing and not making contact,could yours be sticking together? Problem is easily sorted with a replacement solenoid  repair kit,Ebay 250906371426

cheers for the help got a starter from a m8  :) will have a look at mine when i take it out might just be contacts cheers
