my newly converted 300tdi only does 60 plz plz help!!!

As above took it out for a test drive today and it seems to be limited on revs pulls well untill it hits maybe 3000 revs only does 60 in top gear black smoke ot back off exhaust so i dont think its fuel. any ideas as im running out of patience!!!!! revs ok out of gear!

If the 300tdi has a diaghram valve in the fuel pump it could be that. . Is the fuel tank pressurising? Same symptoms as my 2.5TD.

Maybe a leaking or collapsed turbo hose ? $:-\$

Second the above, an air restriction or failed hose in the air intake would be my starting point. Black smoke is unburnt fuel, I would suspest the boost is escaping before the inlet manifold!

Can you feel the turbo spool up when accelerating? Does the boost come on somewhere between 1500 and 2000 rpm and you feel the engine pull harder?

Its not doing that its like the turbo isnt activating

it realy feels like fuel starvation , the harder you push the more it slows down lift off and it goes back to 60!

check the hose from the turbo actuator across to the fuel pump , if the engine has come from a disco it may have a tee into it .
its a small hose about 5-6mm
on a disco (and maybe defender i dont know) there was a tap off the vacum hose that fed another device,from memory somewhere around the back of the cyl head

Is the turbo actually working - Check that the actuator rod on the Turbo is in place ? Mine got knocked off - its only a wee spring clip - and 60 tops was the result...
