Where's the best place to mount antennas on my 109 hard top?

I was thinking the little lugs on the back of the land rover above the gutter.

I have 2 to fit

1x VHF Low Band
1x UHF/VHF Antenna

Suggestions?

Do I take from your note you intend using gutter mounts?

If this is the case might want to have a rethink. The gutter is only 10mm wide and if you have a UHF/VHF whip on it, the loading can be quite a bit.

Also might want to consider the separtion of the two antenna. If they are too close you can get QRM on one while the other is Xmitting.

A roof bar might be a sensible approach then you can remove them easier at a later date. I have mine on a 6mm steel plate bolted to the roof rack across the rear of vehicle but that might not suit all folks.

Good luck

Hi Thomas

I saw a series roof the other day, the owner had riveted a steel plate to the ribs on the roof. Where as I use my light bar with a steel plate bolted to it.

So is that you on the road?

if you are not too fussed about the vehicle then drilled through the middle of the roof is the best  by a long way.
other wise roofbar or gutter mounts
just remember when you put your antenna on, that whatever is underneath it forms the other half of the antenna electrically speaking

If it's ex-mil what about a couple of wing top boxes, or get a pair of the ffr mounts for the sides?

I was referring to

But I think I'm going to use the boxes on the wings instead...

I should add that theres one of them either side... but I think the wing boxes are a better idea.

Rural Rebel, any ideas how I'd utilise the wing boxes properly?

Integrating a TUUAM to your civilian kit would be interesting. Given the prices Withams are currently charging it would not too costly to buy a complete Clansman fit, say PRC 353 for VHF and a PRC 320 for HF.

Diff frequency ranges. I have my sets, I just need somewhere to dump the antennas... I might make some sort of plate for over the wing boxes
