Gearbox stuck in gear...
« on: August 23, 2011, 05:18:09 PM »
 ???
The old 110 has gearbox or clutch problems. She is sticking in gear i had to her back home without a clutch. Clutch seems to ahve pressure but does nothing. can get all the gears and reverse and low high box. I did check the master cyliner and slave for leaks and the clutch was very high on the peddle.
Advice appriciated.

sounds like the clutch fork mate.

Swivel pin in box breaks through fork. get a strengthened one problem solved.

Hope this helps Bill

scott if you take the clutch slave cylinder off the gearbox with a little effort you will be able to see if the fork has gone. If so whip the box out and repair it with a heavy duty fork.

The only difference between a "standard" fork and a "heavy duty" one is that the HD one has a wee plate welded across the back of the pivot dimple..... you can make your own if you can get a small bit of 2mm sheet & a welder :)

Can you disengage the high-low lever?
Both levers being stuck is very unusual, and sounds more like totally wound up to me...

mine was doing the same thing before I took it out, turned out everything moved properly when you moved the transfer levers by hand on the actual box but they would not work using the stick. Apparently it's a common problem and it all seizes up through lack of use.

Hi
It is possible that you have the transmission stuck in 2 gears at once, this can happen if the selector forks are worn. the gear lever inside the box can jump the selectors leaving the main box in a gear but the leaver appears to be in the neutral position therefore when you select a gear the box is in 2 gears at once. I suggest that you remove the top cover assembly from the top of the box & ensure that the selectors are all in the neutral position in the box (this will obviously entail removing all the tinwork around the top of the selector housing). This may be a pain but is easier than removing the transmission assembly.
I have personal experience of this both on 101's in military service and in a 110 of my own after an Ashcroft recon!
You may be lucky and find that a new (unworn) gear leaver will improve the situation.
