Discovery 1 CV joint - 10 or 24 spline
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:40:24 PM »
Quick question. How do you know if your CV joint is a 10 or 24 spline? For my chassis number, Paddock Spares list both and i would like to buy the right one before taking it to bits!

Any clues?

If the rear axle is still the origional fitment, unbolt a halfshaft flange and take the shaft out to see what the number of splines are,its a good indication of what the front diff is but with Landrover you are never certain!I have seen an L reg 200tdi discovery auto with 24 spline diffs fitted from new.

I learned recently that early 200tdi's had 10 spline and the rest were 24 spline.

not quite true, 200tdi's could be either, ive just stripped 3 axles all of which on the outside "should" be 24 spline, unfortunatley the diffs & shafts say other wise & they are all 10 spline,

1 axle came of a  200 tdi disco & the other 2 came of a 3.9 v8 RRC,
Started out with nothing,
Still have most of it left
