200TDI Brakes.
« on: July 18, 2011, 11:36:36 PM »
The brakes on my 200TDI dont seem very effective, seem to run out of puff after a few applications or at low revs, is there a test for the brake servo pump, I have checked for leaks but dont seem to be able to find any.
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi

does the pedal go slowly to the floor when you push it, master cylinder might be passing.
Or siezed pistons. Is the servo getting a vacuum from the engine.

Will try in the morning and see, have sat in it with the engine off and pumped the brakes until hard and then switched the engine on, the pedal did not move at all, I am told this is a test of the vacuum pump, I am still not sure.

I was going to suggest the test you have just described for testing the servo.

As the pedal is not moving, next try taking the vac pipe off the servo and run the engine. Is there vacuum?

If there is vacuum, I would suspect the servo - possibly a split diaphragm.
