4.6 tubular manifolds wanted
« on: May 29, 2011, 08:34:48 PM »
Hi,

As it says, looking for a set of 4.6 tubular manifolds.
Will consider a complete exhaust. Looking for a more V8 sounding V8 ;D

and lose horsepower if the rest of the system is not correctly tuned! You can get Hedmans new for under ?200 Geoff, on a 4.6 you need big bore manifolds to gain any sort of performance. Lose the back box before the centre if you want more noise ;)

it depends on the size of the muffler boxes lose the biggest box first     any engine has to be retuned  when you alter either the induction or exhaust system

if it is full on noise     split the pipes before the  Y branch  two pipes with cherry bomb mufflers  get the american V8 noise                                                           loud pipes save lifes

Is there any reason I cant use RRC exhaust bits to decat the disco V8i ?

Drew.

rimmer bros will sell you the de cat electronic bit that fools the ecu into thinking it is still there     then of with the cats

Geoff,
I put the tubular manifolds that i had fitted on to another tuned engine
& they make not one bit of difference noise wise.
(they also prove hard to keep the nuts tight.)

You will possibly need to heat wrap the 'Tubular Manifolds' to save even more heat build up in the engine compartment.
You can get the chance of the heads overheating when stopped if the manifolds are holding too much heat tho.
Really need the fan/fans to keep running untill cooled down when engine turned off
& cold manifolds as quickly as poss IMO & IME.

don't want to wrap the manifolds for starters you may, dependon on the make, invalidate the warrenty and the retention of heat in the manifolds will increase the chances of the manifolds crackings.

Or,
You can always just get Tubular manifolds that are suitable for being wrapped.
Just like the ones that were on it for 2 years, without cracking.
They are still in use now with some 20,000 miles plus of use.
(ones that will not invalidate a 'warranty'. ;) when heat wrapped.)

on a rover v8 it makes them run right if you have the Y piece in place, or even a balance pipe, if you have each bank on its own pipe it wornt run worth a sook
Started out with nothing,
Still have most of it left

or get a green tune resistor iirc from your local parts supplier, much cheaper & easier than going to rimmer bros
