Today was a good day .
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:33:17 PM »
 :)
Was all set to go to Daltons this morning to scrap my old 19j engines and the rest of my junk and almost as i was about to leave got a call from chap i know who works in a local garage. His 90 engine had just taken a funny turn. So i sold him both engines for ?80. On closer inspection the 2nd engine out my 90 looks like a full rebuild job so he was very very happy and im glad he can make a great engine from both.
Then i won a genuine parts sump for my 300tdi for ?76 on fleebay.
I may have to have a little drink to celibrate my cheap and productive day  ;D.

Today the weather got the better of the gardens i was set to do so phoned the customers up and took the day off. Not a complete waste i delivered the 2 engines up to leadburn so the new owner can crack on get his 90 running. Past a black 110 station wagon twice near temple well im sure its the same one snorkel hanging oot it. Could not manage a wave so attempted a half arsed thunbs up whilst changing gear. trailer was well loaded but the wee green 90 pulled it well if not slow its low gearing is useful for something  :). Drank the petrol though but not to worry. So nipped up to bernard hunters with the scrap metal and then off to my local amenity site to get shot of all the disco wheels. Got chatting to one of the workers who was very pleased to see an old 90 pull into the site. He said he worked for landrover for 22 years previously. Had a wee seat in the 90 and a good old look around even asking how much id sell it for lol. Hope i brightened up his day it was miserable most the day here but i now have a junk free garden. Nowt done on the 110 its too wet its just waiting on a new alternator arriving. OE part found listed wrong on ebay so i bought it for ?65 its the 100amp version.
So that was my day.

Picked up my latest landy purchase this evening. A 1987 200tdi defender 110 in green. Saw it for sale and the price was very tempting. Went to see it realised how good it was got the guy down by ?250 and checked its history and background and came up fine so deal was done.

So now my green 90 petrol will run its MOT till febuary 2012 then its gona be broken and ill use its entire bodyshell for my other 90 full rebuild onto the galvi chassis i got with disco axles and 200tdi engine.

The blue 110 3ootdi is pretty much road ready just a few tweaks in the engine to do. Its gona only be used for camping now as its my pride and joy.

I now have a cure for my landy addiction its called nomore parking spaces in my back garden  ;).

Well aint these 200tdi engines got a bit of punch behind them. Can make it up alot of hills without having to change down gear which will help with fuel econemy. Was surprised to see just how similar in looks the 200tdi defender engine is compared to the 19j im used to. I checked the engine number out. Its came back as a complete defender convertion engine and i can see it was originally painted gold. The 110 was originally a 19j.

Alot of folk say the 300tdi is slower but alot smoother and in discos driven i would agree. Any particular reason for this?.
Not that i will thrash either of the 110,s both have the standard drum rear sailsbury axle and i realise although its a perfectly good brake system wont stop a big 110 quickly at speed.

Fairly happy with the 110 does need a few repairs but nothing seriouse.

Well happy today thats me finally got the 300tdi convertion done on my 110. Sat for about an hour priming the fuel lift pump and getting nothing befor realising i did not have the cam in the correct position. Once solved it primed up very fast. Cracked the injectors. Spun the engine till fuel came out the joins. Tightened back up and connected start solanoid. First try it fired into life. Still needs to be bleed slightly some air still in the system but under full rev no spluttering or surging. Only at idle it sometimes conks out or hunts slightly. Also got to continue bleeding the cooling system. Removed old fan ready for electric job. So all thats to be done now is fit exaust sytem and fit new power steering pipes. After that ill get the foam engine cleaner out and make it shine. Then give the bodywork a real good clean, tcut and colour polish. With evrything in place i now reakon this is an easy 2 day job. Ill get up pics once its all done and cleaned up.

Well got me first decent idea of how much the 110 200tdi is to run for work dutys and im impressed. Not exactly accurate but the way ive always done it is on my guage reading. I always make sure my guage is accurate you know good sender and good earth etc so no bobbing about on the guage. So i had 1/4 in the tank put in ?20 that gives me roughly 12.5 ltrs (ripoff) thats puts it half full . I got 140 miles till it was back at 1/4.
damn sight better than 60 miles fromn my petrol 90. Now gota see what the 110 300tdi is capable of.
