Hi , is the bits you want to paint just steel or has it been galvanized ? How bad is the rust ( if any ) on your stuff?

If you intend keeping them for a while it might be worth getting them powder coated, I did the roof rack and it made it look spot on, whereas I used hammerite on other bits and just does not look as good.

I been useing the straight to metal hammerite spary on alot of parts, i then put the parts by a heater for a few days comes up superb and its a real tough finish unlike the hammerite brush on paint. Expensice but worth it. Powder coating is good until it chips then it starts to peal off.

The spray sounds best so far.
surface rust on metal a brush with a wire brush would see it fine, what you thinking jjc.

powder coat, but find a company which puts a decent thick coating on and zinc primes.

I though I'd done a good job on my wheels - sanded them flat, rust-killer the lot, then 2 coats of Hammerite spray. Less than a year later they look rubbish, surface rust everywhere.  :-[

Hi kerzo , yeah once you actually see the rust , its very difficult to get rid of  as it starts inside and works its way out until its visible , as you said it was your light guards , would recommend power coating with the full 11 processes, as for a step and they will always chip with the rubbish on the roads , just wire bush and a good sand with a 60 grit sandpaper or so your making it a really fine key and spray them a lot better finish rather than brush , would apply a rust prevention paint just to help then yeah hammerite but give it two coats on the same day you can't let it dry ,its a pacific spec of application ,

Hope this helps and you understand , not very good at explaining lol
