just hear from a friend whose car needed its first MOT today. Bad Persons charged her ?30 to remove and defrost the washer pump....

I know where I'd not be going again.....

To remove and defrost water pump... why would they have to do this unless waterpump is on the timing belt(silly design imo) and even then how would they know it had to be thawed?

How is that part of the mot?

Did your friend agree to this charge before they done it.. if not then they do not have to be paid...

I think it's the washer pump.

Washer pump not water pump, screen washers are part of the MOT

That's surprising, the only opinion I've heard about them before was that they were excellent. And that was from a guy who, by his own admission, is pretty "particular" about his cars.

Does seem pretty steep though, I'm guessing the computer probably has a minimum charge of half an hour (at ?60 per hour).

A kettle-full of hot water would have worked just as well - or is this one of these stupidly designed systems where the pump is hidden from view? Sandy.
