Just wondering were to get Series III engine and gear box/axle oil from in Edinburgh or Haddington area.  I don't really feel like paying Halfords prices.  Does anyone know of any other suppliers?

Cheers, Clive

Unipart just next to Murrayfield are good. Many of their parts were approved by LR, the 20W50 engine oil is a good price. You need EP90 for the axles and gearbox, GL4 spec because GL5 is not good for the brass bits apparently.

If you are stuck then Opie Oils are quite good. Do good deals with clubs, not sure if this club is set up with them though.

I use the following, they do comma ep80/90 GL4 and are the only folks local that I could find stocking a GL4 spec gear oil. Prices are good, something like ?20 for a 4.5l can I seem to remember. That may include a wee discount as I get it through my brother who works at McTaggarts.

I used these http://www.edinburghmotorfactors.com/ a couple of years ago now and they sold comma gearoil for IIRC around ?8+VAT for 5 litres. I use D&A at the moment as its more local to me which is less than ?15 for 5 litres.

Do a google search for  "Ferguson and Menzies", then look for the distributors tab.  They supply a range of industrial, agricultural and automotive oils.  Check the prices for buying bulk ie 25 litre containers (at the rate my SIII leaks /uses oil 25 litres aint a lot).  I bet you won't go to Halfrauds.....

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have ordered GL4 gear oil from Eskside in Dalkeith (about ?17+VAT for 4.5L), ordered today, here for Tuesday or so.  That's better than Halfords at ?8.49 per litre!.

Clive,

I checked back receipts and I last paid 13.66+VAT for ep80/90 at eskside, that was with a wee discount as I said though.

yes, much better than the big name chains.

Also try Brogans Fuels, over at Fenton Barns..... but whether they go down to 5ltr containers I don't know.
I certainly got a 25ltr container of EP90 off them earlier in the year.... used it all, mind you :(

I have a Halfords Trade Card and it knocks pounds off their products inc Oil. Ok so you do not get the screwdriver set on offer but I have enough. A real great saving to be had especially oil and bulbs
