you cant just use a picture saved on your own computer the photo must be 'public'. the best was is to open a photobucket/flicker account or similar. save your pics to that then they give you an image code. use that to load pictures.

to insert that picture i used photobucket. picture saved to photobucket then as you float over the image theres a drop down bar giving img  just copy and paste the whole section which reads [IMGhttp://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr302/jumbo110/new90paintjobmaybe001.jpg[IMG]       (deleted one part but you need the full [IMG] at both ends for it to work. its the same or very similar to add a picture to your profile.
hope this helps, im computer clueless but after a dozen explanations even i got it ;)

It would be good to restrict photos to a minimum and to small ones, if a photo is really necessary. It wouldn't be good to see the ridiculous pictures that take most of the screen in some signatures on some other LR forums. Things look tidier and easier to read without photos in signatures.
It's only my opinion of course.

aha you mean an avatar... go to profile and its an option in there, but be aware that there is a size limit, both in kb and its size on screen.

if your pic is too small you can resize it in mspaint.

any probs, just send me an email/pm and i can resize it for you.

Ah! Yes, avatar. That's a different animal. I think the forum resizes the photo automatically. But indeed it's very small. And square.

Since joining I've been unable to add an avatar.  Most forum's do have a size limit.  My avatar which I use on other fora is 6k in size which is quite small but I was getting the 'unable to right to directory' error detailed above.  However, I have now used the remote online storage as suggested above and that works fine.  It would be easier for those less computer savvy to be able to use a small pic and save it on the forum though I would have thought.
