just looked on the frank pickles site to go look at insurance..

they state they can not insure youif you are employed in certain trades.

some of them i can uderstand, but they wont insure me as a security gurd/doorman or  pub employees, casino employees, jockeys.

anyone got any idea why?

Security guard and doorman, I think both jobs are governed by the same licence, SIRA I think, they may view the jobs as the same risk I.e car left at high risk hot spots for vandals and trouble makers, pubs, clubs, building sites ets.

Not sure about jockey, maybe cause you would be regarded as below average size and can't see over steering wheel lol

im a doorman, i think they are being very jobist.

think its the old advice, shop around. i usualy start with 'go compare' to get a base line then go to other companies then try the usual play one off against the other. even using go compare its amazing the diference. one company quoting ?150/200 then another company quoting ?1500/2000 dont know how they get away with that yet there must be folk that will take out a policy at these prices.
im not saying to do it but if you seen top gear when clarkson was trying to get a car insured he got the best deal out of the 3 of them. they were all tv presenters which is a high risk aparently so mega high premiums. but clarkson has a doctrine title so listed himself as a 'doctor' instead of tv presenter and got the cheapest cover.
go compare would give you an idea but id tend to go for the landrover specialist companies especialy if you have a modified motor (even towbar) or you are after offroad cover. ask alan (yellodisco) about the surprise he got from his previous insurer, already discussed some time ago on here

as said before im with frank pickles for 152 a year as for jobist they are not the only ones a few other companys will not insure me due to being in the armed forces   nfu and zurich to name two
just pleased i met the FP requirements

nd when i did live on base it was more expensive and was not coverd for any accadents involvine mitiry vihicles or terrarison

freebies insurance is due for renewal. got a quote in from current insurer which was quite reasonable, just over ?200 for a 33 year old driven since i was 17 with no accidents/claims. but as per the usual i tried other places. just as well i was sitting down the amount of "big name" "low cost" "never beaten on price" companies that want as much as ?500

all i can say to them is 'take a long walk off a short cliff' . is it just me or has premiums shot through the roof?maybe thanks to the wee cold spell we had this winter, companies desperate to keep thier profit margine
