Greenlaning weekend August
« on: June 02, 2010, 02:09:22 PM »
All,

I'd like to organise a weekend of greenlaning in the lake district in August since there's no GRR in the summer and I'll miss the September one. Camping or B&B to sleep depending on requirements for comfort. Given club commitments, options are 31/07-01/08, 14/08-15/08, 28/08-29/08.

Cumbria isn't very far from Glasgow so hopefully some will be interested. I'd like to keep numbers low but we can easily break up in groups or do the lanes in a different order if necessary. I'll investigate the lanes and create an itinerary that shouldn't be too tough on cars.

Who would be interested?

I guess the option to sleep at night is up to you. I don't think there would be a problem if some camp and others prefer to indulge in luxury.

I agree shouldn't be an issue where folk sleep, better banter if we find somewhere suitable to camp,I've had a few bad experiences in b&b's, I will pron do what the rest do, easy led that way

Cedric, I wonder if a mention in general chat would highlight the weekend a bit more?

Hi,

I used to go on mountain bike weekends in Cumbria. We used the campsite at Coniston as a base.
I had a big frame tent we used as a place to eat & drink at night. All the wee tents pitched round it like some sort of cowboy settlement.
Would the club lend you the markee to do this.

cheers

Thinking back to Bathgate and putting up the marquee, took about 3 hours and a cast of thousands, the instructions were about as good as a chocolate teapot, I think I will pass on the marquee :D :D

Ah but you have not allowed for the "committee" meetings that took place to study and pontificate about what pole went where? :) :)

The Coniston area would be a good base because there are many lanes around it (though not all suitable for shinies).

Thanks for the link James. I already have all the lanes in Cumbria catalogued, mapped, and checked for TROs and other restrictions (which I might have to do again closer to the time to be sure).

All,

To organise something properly (e.g. camp site, routes, times), I need to know how many people would be interested in coming. So far that's 1 other than me, which doesn't make it worthwhile. I'm thinking of the 14/08-15/08 weekend (because it's right in the middle) with possibly a drive down on Friday (to have more time). If nobody else will commits, I'll abandon the idea.
