Can anyone advise on the best way to put up a full length roof rack on a 110.
I have assembled all the bits but the weight the size and the height of the vehicle are all conspiring to defeat me. Dont want to assemble on the roof as it could lead to damage of the paintwork.

I am somewhat vertically challenged and from a family of short a***s so was hoping someone had a neat trick to help.

garage etc with strong roof beams and hoist it up to right height then drive under it
borrow up to 4 landies with bonnets, park 2x2 opposite each other. 4 helpers to hold rack to right height then drive 110 between them(use a wall, ladders, banking etc if short of landies
anyone nearby own a forklift?

Tommy, guess you need an army of volunteers to help you with it. I have the same problem getting my roof rack on and off-its 6-7ft. Im 5'10, but its the weight-weighs a flippin' ton!

I got pallets and laid them on my side of the truck so i got the extra height (the chap who was helping me was tall enough to reach ) and after it was unbolted, we lifted it and took it off over the back door-we yet to face the challenge of putting it back on when her ladyship returns from Larbert, but it'll no doubt be the same way it came off.

I would suggest you put some covers over the roof and back door to protect the bodywork a bit as well.

Tommy as Mel says cover roof just in case,get someone strong but light on the roof,turn rack upside down slide up a ladder at rear door lay on another ladder on roof,climb up ladder at back two people lift and turn rack third person removes ladder from roof lower rack and bolt on,thats how I did it

lol, i am only 5mins walk from the depot.......maybe one or two could make unplanned diversions

I have the same prob with the rack I bought for the Disco, although only half sized it is pretty heavy but I got a carpet out and covered the far side of the roof then stood on a small bench and lowered it on to the carpet etc.
Understand that the 110 is much longer and heavier so maybe if Doug gets the buses along then it would be easy 

I think I might video this and put it on You Tube, looks like the making of a right comedy, just want to make sure it does not damage the vehicle. I now know why so many 110's run about all year round with the rack attached.

Have enlisted the help of the Fire Brigade, daughter's boyfreind, he is a sensible chap and good at heights, this should help

Have you a figure in mind % or MPG?
 
I see it as no worse than running the 90 with the roof bars on, agreed there is a bit of weight in it but only that of a passenger. I suppose when its loaded up and adds to the front area of the vehicle it will have an impact but on a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick dont know

My roof rack's on all the time as well. Only off at the moment, to get strenghened up a bit.
 I dont really see much of a difference in fuel consumption. I have a lot of weight in the truck anyway, and with her sleek aerodynamic lines and swift acceleration.....NOT .........its doesnt make much difference with mine. I need it anyway as those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting the Goddess will know shes a mobile dog unit!!

Personally, i wouldnt be a***d taking a thumping great roof rack on and off all the time.
