Aux Trailer Socket Fitting.
« on: December 07, 2020, 07:55:31 PM »
Hi All,

I'm goin to fit a 12S trailer socket to my 110. I already have the normal 12N trailer socket fitted but the 12S is to charge a trailer battery.
I'll probably take Live (fused) & Earth feeds straight from the battery box and run a cable back along the top of the chassis to the socket, but, I need to switch the supply off when the engine's off.
So, I was just looking at fitting a relay in line somewhere, switched from a (yet to be decided) live when the engine's running...
But, I've seen 'auto sensing' relays desingned for this as you don't need a postive to switch it as it detects the higher alternator voltage and does it automatically.

Does anybody have experience of these? Are they reliable? Or do you have any other tips for this project?

Thanks,

Mike

I’ve used these relays for my caravan set up which is similar to what your looking for, never had any trouble with their operation and worked perfectly with charging the 2nd battery and powering the caravan fridge, lights etc. Good luck with the project
