TD5 clutch problem
« on: July 12, 2016, 07:55:41 AM »
Hi.  On my 2002 Defender, I'm experiencing an increasing problem re selecting gears - especially R and 1st.  I thought clutch to start with however have noticed that there's "play" in the pedal - I am depressing about halfway until you feel it engaging, therefore I need foot almost on the floor to move a gear.

Thoughts?  Master cylinder, leaking (which I can't see a sign of) or needs an adjust?

Thanks, Alan.

is the fluid still full? what colour is it, if its all black and gunge maybe get away with bleeding through with new fluid.
my 2004 td5 defender had play on the pedal and it was the flywheel, i had the flywheel and clutch changed 8 weeks ago £500

Indeed. It's over £400 for a clutch and DMF alone...

Was the flywheel purchased from a company, or a private individual?

came from a legit 4x4 company in yorkshire, will try and find the invoice its too far back my ebay history. at the time they were listing 25 available so they must have bought a few.  my mate reckoned euro car parts were offering them cheaper but i was quoted £360 for a valeo kit from them
