3.9 V8 replacement, advice sought.
« on: March 29, 2015, 10:42:52 PM »
I have a worn out 3.9 EFI in a 1990, G plate, automatic Classic.

I have been given a 3.5 to replace it with from an H plate manual Discovery, (I have the 3.5 ECU as I am informed there is a difference).

A friend has told me I will need to change a bearing to fit the torque converter to the manual engine fly wheel.

Anyone know what this is and a part number for it?

Advance thanks,

coop

You will need the auto flywheel from the 3.9. Manual and auto flywheels are different.

It was my understanding until recently that 3.5, 3.9 and 4.2 hotwire ecus were all different..... however that now may not be the case according to the man who used to do the 14CUX mapping at JE and TVR Power. Either way fitting the 3.5 ecu is the best bet for success I would imagine

I've just done the same but changed back to  manual.you will probably have to remove the spiggot bearing for the auto torque converter to fit.i had to buy one to change from auto to manual.good luck
