Classic Insurance
« on: May 14, 2014, 06:02:00 PM »
Went to renew my insurance on my 1989 90 and realised that as it has turned 25 years old, it qualifies for classic policies and halved my premium!

Won't be long before the first defenders are 25 years old and are officially classics! When did the defender come out anyhow?

Lesson there for anyone looking to buy.

You can often get classic car insurance for over 15yr old vehicles (you just need to ask and check; "historic tax" and classic insurance" have different perimeters -- who knew!!) -- My last defender (1994) was always insured on a classic policy (Footman James & adrian Flux).

Be careful of classic car insurance.  Many classic policies will not give you any No Claims Bonus.  It may not be a problem to you right now but if you have earned a significant NCB you may find that you have lost it (if and) when you switch back to a normal policy.

Good point Zebra. The 90 isn't my main car so not a problem for me, but something to think about if its your main car.

Think you just have to shop around and as mentioned double check the policys offered. I use Sureterm and adrian flux they seem very fair to the old landys. Along with the wife as named driver we average £79-£110 per motor fully comp on the two 110,s and the petrol 90. All the motors are 86-1989. Bizzare thing we came across though was if the wife is named main policy holder the cost is double with all the same details. Im saying nothing !!!  :). Im very honest when giving them details i know what my landys are worth no point saying its worth 10k when its a daily farm truck... think this is were alot of folk go wrong.
