Help - Discovery 2 air suspension
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:26:06 PM »
Hi,

My wifes disco 2 suspension has collapsed on both sides. I fitted two new airbags in the summer so don't think there is a hole in the bag(s)
I'm considering converting to coils.
I see I need to get the ECU re-programed for coils.

Anyone done this.

Cheers

Geoff

Geoff - sounds like the compressor's away.  I converted to coils a while back (and lifted 2 inches also).  Pretty straightforward and the ride afterwards (in my opinion), was better.  I didn't get anything re-programmed but removed the air compressor and relay/fuse to the unit.  pm me if you need any further info..  Alan.

Cheers Alan, I think I'll do the conversion. What kit did you buy. There are a few to choose from on ebay.

Cheers

I used the online folks MM4x4 (bright yellow adverts in LRO, etc.).  Spoke to Chris there who runs a D2 and knows all sorts.  He asked me what sort of driving I'd be doing, etc. and recommended heavy duty Britpart springs and Terrafirma shocks.  They also supplied the conversion plates, etc..  Give them a call and have a chat.

Let me know how you get on.  Alan.

Hi,

So I got home from Aberdeen tonight.
The disco will pump up to the raised height and stay there all day.
It's sitting level.

When you drive it above 18MPH, it drops to the bump stops.

Any Ideas.

I've had to hire the wife a Hyundi people carrier.

Cheers

Check the ride height sensors are working, plug a nanocom or hawkeye in and see what there doing in real time.

I converted to coils. Compressor was playing up and the track I drove up was a bit to muddy and grit got into the folds of one of the bags and put a hole in it. Was cheaper to fit coil conversion that keep replacing airbags. Its a britpart standard height kit. does the job and only £100. Just turned the light off on the dash with hawkeye.

Geoff - good to hear you got sorted.  In my opinion, makes for a more straightforward life with coils....  Alan.
