Series 2A MOT

Hi,

My Series 2A goes in for its MOT tomorrow and I've heard mentioned that the brakes shouldn't be tested on single axle rollers (it doesn't have free wheeling hubs). The MOT station I go to does all my old cars and they are sympathetic to classics - but I wondered if there are any issues in brake testing (other than the handbrake that can't be put on while moving). I'm not sure if any damage could be caused if it was in 2 wheel drive mode and neutral. Some people have even mentioned removing the front prop.

Any advise?

Providing it is NOT in 4 wheel drive (rear wheels only) then it can be tested normally. 

The hand brake can be tested on the rollers but not violently.

Or the garage can use an accelerometer on the floor (if they have one) and test the brakes whilst driving.

I had my s3 done this year which also involved a road test which it failed on as when braked it would pull to one side which found prob and fixed easy enough but again on retest it was a road test then the rolling road to check rear and handbrake which it passed well on .

Oh and it was on two wheel drive with no free wheeling hubs fitted

A PASS :-)

Borderline on front brakes due to a binding on passenger side (mechanical bind that only appears when wheel tightened up and thought I had fixed it) but I have time to play about with it now.

^^^^^ Check the width of the shoes. I've seen reports of pattern parts that were wider than original spec, enough to foul the drum when its torqued up.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

File down the outer edge by a 1/16inch and tighten up drum without wheel on and see if its catching if so again 1/16 till its free then adjust the brakes remeber to do the Chaffee on both ends glad you passed bet that's a load of your mind for winter also.  :-) :-) :-)

Thanks, yes happy now. Will try the 1/16" idea.

Also there is some 'play' on the bottom banjo ring on this side - none on the other - so wondered how tight this should be.
